Houston Texans: Offseason Panic Mode 2021 Edition

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans might as well be flying their flag upside down at this point. Unfortunately for their fans, not much can be done to avoid panic mode this offseason.

Deshaun Watson Disaster

Even before everything stacking up against Watson, this was going to be an ugly offseason. The Houston quarterback wanted out of Texas but the Texans didn’t want to let them go. A bonehead move on their part as they’re in free-fall mode and should take whatever they can get. Now he’s had some off-field troubles that have cooled his market value if left any at all. Houston was playing a game of chicken and might be forced to swerve first.

Losing Stars

First it was DeAndre Hopkins, now JJ Watt. It seems like the entire locker room wants out and there’s little to keep them there. Even if they can turn out a respectable season, too many players have to be turned off by the drama and handling of the Watson situation. Houston needs to roll out the red carpet and treat their rookies like kings to change the culture. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Not Enough Picks

After the Texans traded for Laremy Tunsil, they were left without first and second-round picks this year. They were also without them in last year’s draft as well. Now it puts too much pressure to nail their first few picks or find a way to trade up. Too bad to do so, they’ll again need to give up draft stock to get first and second-round talent.

Front Office Clean Sweep

If I owned the Houston Texans, the entire place would be gutted. There’s clearly some dysfunction with old and current players calling out the toxicity of the Texans team. Giving complete control to Bill O’Brien who traded away their future was laughable. They rolled out the red carpet and allowed their future to be nonexistent. Now they want guys like Watson to suck it up and deal as if they have their best interest in mind. Clearly, that front office wanted nothing to do with football decisions. It’s probably because they have no clue what they’re doing. How are they still in expansion team mode?

The Houston Texans are the most dysfunctional team in the NFL. It seems they’ve even dropped below the Cleveland Browns, who are often the lowest of bars. Texans fans should dust off the paper bags, it’s going to be a very ugly season.
