When we look back on 2019, it will be one of the more important years for professional wrestling. Yes, we still look at 1997-2000 as being important, but 2019 has incorporated that into one year. In 2019, we have seen promotions like AEW begin. The NWA has seen a resurgence with NWA Powerrr . Promotions like Impact and MLW have seen a spike in popularity. However, when it comes to wrestlers, there’s one superstar who has seen her stock rise greatly in 2019. I’m talking about Tessa Blanchard of Impact.

After she dropped the Knockouts belt to Taya Valkyrie earlier in 2019,speculation began to what was next for her. We started seeing her start working with men and was put into a program with Sami Callahan. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Tessa talked about her working with the men. She said,” I trained a lot with men and it seemed normal.” We would see Sami and Tessa have their first encounter at the 2019 Slammiversary. It’s worth mentioning that it was the main event.  While Tessa didn’t win, she showed that she could hang with the male wrestlers as well as the women. We would see the two cross paths before Bound for Glory in a match to see who would face Brian Cage for the World title. Tessa wasn’t able to win, but showed that she can be in the ring with top people.

While Impact was in NYC for tapings, we found out that Tessa will be challenging Sami Callahan for the Impact title at their January PPV “A Hard Time to Kill.” This is the first time a woman is challenging for the top title in a promotion. However, there’s been a lot of talk on what Tessa’s post-Impact career will look like. The two promotions being linked to her are WWE (NXT) and AEW. Both promotions could use her. However, if WWE were to sign her, she can not go to NXT. She needs to get the AJ Styles treatment and go right for the main roster. Her work in Impact in the last couple of months has made her a massive star.

Wherever she goes, I will still be a fan because I think she is the top woman wrestler in the world, better than Charlotte Flair or Sasha Banks.
