Is Cam Newton in Play for the Dallas Cowboys in 2021?
The deadline for Dak Prescott to sign a long term deal passed at 4 pm today. With the Dallas Cowboys failing to lock up their quarterback on a long term deal, they’re expressing one of two things. They think they’ll be able to get a deal done after this season and expect Dak to prove himself. Either that or Jerry Jones is playing the long game because he doesn’t think Prescott will get them over the hump and needs some convincing.
If the first is true than the Cowboys are relying on new head coach Mike McCarthy to push Dak to the elite category. If the latter is true than Jones is penny-pinching to try and build strength around his quarterback and intends the talent to overcome his failures.

Are the Dallas Cowboys playing its fire or do they plan on having a safety net in say, Cam Newton?
Cam signed a one year deal with the New England Patriots. The Patriots needed a veteran with playoff and Super Bowl experience to push Jarrett Stidham into a position where he can take over from the future Hall of Famer, Tom Brady. Newton needed a team he can come to with the right coaches in the place where he can instantly come in and perform.
At 31-years old, Newton could still have a good 3-4 years minimum left in his career. If he can prove himself in 2020, the market for Cam will heat up. Dallas has a handful of stars they’ve paid as of late and without someone taking a team-friendly deal they won’t have enough to keep building towards that Super Bowl success.
So either Dak Prescott needs to prove he’s the guy that can get them over the hump, or the team will have to explore a veteran like Cam Newton. Newton will surely require a long term contract, but not on the level of Patrick Mahomes’ 10 year deal. A veteran on the backside of his career can give the Cowboys the break they need to invest in other positions. Cam could be the perfect win/now quarterback who gives them time to draft and develop another rookie. Dak fans would be beyond upset, but the young quarterback has the skills to entice plenty of teams still searching for a playmaker. Either way, 2020 could be the make or break year for Dak in Dallas
