Is WarnerMedia/DC Finally Getting Things Right?

If you’ve watched any of the DC Fandome special events this weekend, you saw a large quantity of what seemed like good news for the direction of the company. Their now two-day fan event kicked off with some great panels, teasers on upcoming projects, and even video game announcements. So far, everything they’ve announced has been well received.

First, and most importantly, they finally after many years have embraced the multiverse. You know, the thing in the comics that set the stage up for different iterations of different characters so they could be told by different writers? Yeah, they’re finally bringing that thought process to their movies and television shows. If anything, they should thank The Flash tv show for ushering this in. With their Crisis on Infinite Earths arc finally playing out on a live-action show, they could gauge just how well fans received this concept and fast-tracked it to all their properties.

Then, of course, the announcement of The Batman. I’m not taking anything away from Wonder Woman 1984 or The Suicide Squad, but Batman movies are held to a higher standard. As much as we can’t wait for both films Batman was the nail-biter. Bat-fans will forever judge any iteration against the ones before it. Through all the whining and moaning that Robert Pattinson of Twilight fame was going to be the next Bruce Wayne, we finally got a glimpse of the movie, and we loved it!

More Entertainment: The DC Universe Needs a Live-Action Batman Beyond

There’s something about a young, angry, vengeful Bruce Wayne that just gets your blood flowing.

Last let’s not forget about the video games. The developers of the Arkham series are tackling the Suicide Squad game. While it won’t be out until 2022, the teaser alone was enough to get fans excited. While no gameplay footage was shown, there were plenty of jokes and moments to gain interest in these characters. Then there’s Gotham Knights. Set in a post-Batman universe, the Bat-family has been given the keys to the city. Unfortunately, the big tease is the villain of the game The Court of Owls. Since they almost took out Batman, can his successors hold their own?

With all the excitement coming out of the even DC finally looks to be opening the vault on some of their more classic characters. Fans have loved the characters for so long but they’ve been kept under lock and key. Some of the best stories from DC have played out in the comics and they’ve never seen the live-action treatment. Will this be the catalyst to finally get them back on track?
