Jacksonville Jaguars: They blew a shot at the Super Bowl

As we saw on Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars were playing the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. For a bulk of the game, it seemed that the Jaguars were going to pull off the unthinkable, beat the New England Patriots in Foxborough. However, the Patriots were able to come back and beat them by a score of 24-20 and earn a spot in the Super Bowl. The Jaguars had a successful season, but the playoffs are another season. There were various moments that made me think the Jaguars didn’t know how to handle the situation.

In the second half, the Jaguars got two field goals. Those would be good if they didn’t allow Tom Brady to get two touchdowns. I may not be good at math but 6 is better than three. The two field goals may have worked in the regular season. But when you are playing the New England Patriots and they are at home, you need to attack. This leads to my next moment. The Jacksonville Jaguars were able to keep possession of the ball for a good chunk of the first half. When you have three punts in the second half, you aren’t doing well in holding the ball.

When you look at the stats, the Jaguars have most of them. However, the problem that they had was that they couldn’t cash in on the opportune moments. One of those moments came in the early fourth quarter. The Patriots had gotten the ball to start the fourth quarter and were driving down the field. Then they would fumble the ball at their 45-yard line. The Jaguars still had the lead and they needed one more score to put the Patriots away. They end up punting the ball.

This game showed two teams on two opposite sides. For the Patriots, this wasn’t their first rodeo and it showed towards the end of the game. On the other hand, the Jaguars were the rookie team and it showed. As I saw the lead dwindle for the Jacksonville Jaguars, I figured that the Patriots were going to win.
