James Bond: This Eternals Star Would Make The Perfect 007
We’ve known for years (at least that’s what this pandemic has made it feel like) that Daniel Craig wasn’t returning as 007. Hundreds of actors have emerged as candidates to take over as James Bond. Tom Hardy and Idris Elba have been two of the more widely rumored casting choices, however, they just seem a bit too obvious. When casting the next James Bond, MGM and Barbara Broccoli need to think outside the box.
Way outside the box.
I’ve gone back and forth as to whom I want to see as James Bond. Would Hardy and Elba be suitable choices? Yes. Do I think they’d be the right choice? No. Let’s really think long and hard about the next Bond. After all, this is the 007 for the new generation. And while I’m sure most of you think I’m going to say something obvious like John Krasinski or Michael B. Jordan, as they’ve both recently taken on John Clancy roles, that is not where my unstable mind has gone. Instead, how about someone we’ve not given much thought to. He’s fresh off of a masterful performance in the Eternals, Kit Harrington Kumail Nanjiani.

You might know Nanjiani best from his portrayal as Eternal, and Bollywood icon, Kingo. This might seem like a joke to some, however, we aren’t talking about some run-of-the-mill actor. Nanjiani has quite a few film credits to his name on IMDB. While they’ve all mostly been on the comedic end of the spectrum, there have been instances of his acting reaching levels beyond that comedy realm.
The Big Sick was Nanjiani’s true breakout role. The film, while a comedy at heart, showcased a more mature role than we’ve seen from Nanjiani’s other works such as Stuber and The Lovebirds (both highly underrated gems from previous years). We don’t really know much in the way of him as a true Hollywood action star. If The Eternals are any indication, Nanjiani can look and act like a true badass. (move over, Arnold).
There are many that will classify this suggestion as complete and utter malarkey. I can totally take that criticism. We’ve not seen a wide enough catalog of Nanjiani’s films for many to accept him as a Bond candidate. It’s worth noting, that before taking on action roles and eventually Bond himself, Daniel Craig was a stage performer. I’d also argue that Pierce Brosnan has had more comedic roles in his illustrious career than action hero roles ( For crying out loud, the man played a centaur in the Percy Jackson series). Can we really dismiss Nanjiani as a Bond candidate?

The firm belief in Hollywood is a minority will play James Bond next. Whether that means a female, African-American, Asian, or Indian actor, who knows what MGM is thinking. Nanjiani would be a sensational actor to carry that torch of Bond for a new generation of fans across the World. Seeing as James Bond is a global icon, this would be a huge win. An Indian action star in one of the most iconic roles in film lore, that’s breaking barriers.
I’m 100 percent positive that 95 percent of those reading this article heard years ago that Kumail Nanjiani was being cast in a Marvel film and said, “who?” And I’m sure the other 5 percent who knew who he was before Eternals (or this article) were probably saying, “why?” In Hollywood, you need to take chances. Marvel and Disney saw the chance to get Nanjiani and took it. I’d reckon that over ¾ of those who’ve seen The Eternals have Kingo pegged as their favorite character. That was Disney taking a risk on someone unknown to many, thrusting him into a role that nobody thought he would thrive in, and the end result was them succeeding mightily. Don’t you think the fine folks who bring 007 to life want that same kind of satisfaction?
