Joker (2019) Teaser Trailer

One of the biggest gambles Warner Bros. and DC will take in their cinematic partnership will be this year’s “Joker”. The iconic villain is arguably the greatest comic book baddie of all time. His character has been around forever and has some of the greatest story arcs in the long history of Batman. The challenge isn’t in the character, the challenge will be in the story itself. Joker is an origin story of sorts, with a character who has no true origin.

“Joker centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”

The Take:

We’re really excited about the Joker movie. While most superhero movies are running out and telling the happy-go-lucky tale of heroes and their triumph over evil, Joker looks to explore the tragic backstory of DC’s most iconic villain. DC not only has to pay tribute to the beautiful tragedy that is the Joker, but they need to do something few iterations before have pulled off. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the psychopath combined with the comedic side of Joker. Not only does he play perfect contrast to Bruce Wayne and Batman, but he also is the perfect contrast of his own self. What shows off just how psychotic the Joker is, is the way he finds laughter amongst his pain. His maliciousness isn’t for revenge, but rather psychological control over his victims. The Joker finding fun and humor in his torture shows just how twisted he is. In order to tell his story, there needs to be a massively tragic back story.

Joker stars Zazie Beetz (“Deadpool 2”), Bill Camp (“Red Sparrow,” “Molly’s Game”), Frances Conroy (TV’s “American Horror Story,” Hulu’s “Castle Rock”), Brett Cullen (“42,” Netflix’s “Narcos”), Glenn Fleshler (TV’s “Billions,” “Barry”), Douglas Hodge (“Red Sparrow,” TV’s “Penny Dreadful”), Marc Maron (TV’s “Maron,” “GLOW”), Josh Pais (upcoming “Motherless Brooklyn,” “Going in Style”), and Shea Whigham (upcoming “First Man,” “Kong: Skull Island”).**
