Joker At Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Is Great For The First-time RMC Rider

The Joker at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom isn’t a coaster to be taken lightly. The consensus behind the RMC is that it’s one of the manufacturers worst. That’s not true. This ride gives a lot of airtime and surprising speed. In no way is it the best. There are worse RMC’s out there.

The first thing about the joker you’ll notice, the amazing facade of the ride. There’s a giant Joker sign at the front. Next to it is a clown’s mouth, laughing at you as walk through it to enter the ride. You’ll get the feeling you’re walking into a funhouse.

As if the themeing wasn’t enough on Joker, the purple and green track really stands out. One of the prettiest RMC’s by a landslide. The trains are purple and green and feature the Joker’s face on the front. They’ve got a funhouse feel, sticking with the theme of the coaster. One of the best looking RMC trains by a landslide.

What are the stats on The Joker? Formerly a GCI coaster named Roar, Six Flags opened Joker on May 29, 2016. It stands a modest 100 feet, reaching speeds of 53 mph. The coaster has a total of 3 inversions.

The Joker experience is quite exhilarating. You start out of the station pretty aggressive. There are a few small bunny hills and some decent speed before you make it to the lift hill. I’d compare it a bit to Steel Vengeance opening. The views going up the lift hill aren’t too impressive. Don’t expect anything spectacular on that end.

Joker has some great elements. There’s the typical RMC wave turn and infamous Zero-G Stall. I’ll give Joker credit, the Zero-G Stall on this coaster might be the best I’ve done on any RMC. You’re not going to get the speed of Lightning Rod or Steel Vengeance, but Joker does have some giddy-up.

When it comes down to it, the Joker is a decent RMC. In no way is it the best out there. There’s a significant gap between this and the likes of Lightning Rod and Steel Vengeance. If you want a good RMC that serves as an introduction to the manufacturer, Joker might be the coaster for you.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is worth the trip for this ride alone. A lot of RMC fans will say this is the weakest of the bunch. That’s not the case at all. You’ll just have to see for yourself.
