Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes Has the Makings of Being Legit
The Kansas City Chiefs are one of a few teams off to a 2-0 start. The only other ones are the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, Jacksonville Jaguars, Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Los Angles Rams. The Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings are both 1-0-1 as they tied in Week 2. When you look at the teams who started 2-0, they all have one thing in common. With the exception of the Kansas City Chiefs. The other teams have a seasoned quarterback. The Chiefs are the only team to start off the season 2-0 and have a quarterback with less than four starts.
After they didn’t bring back Alex Smith, the decision was made to make Patrick Mahomes the starter heading into the season. A lot of “experts” (including me) didn’t have a ton of expectation for this team. In my AFC West preview, I figured they would finish no better than 3rd place. I just thought this because I wasn’t sure what kind of QB we were going to get. I thought we were getting someone who would take time to get his feet wet. However, what we have seen in the last two weeks is nothing short of amazing. In two games, he has a stat line that could result in a possible MVP.
In two games, he has ten touchdowns with zero interceptions (1st in the NFL). In fact, Mahomes has an average of 10.6 yards per pass (2nd in the NFL) He has a completion percentage of 69.1% (10th in the NFL). The average per pass is fantastic. He gets the Kansas City Chiefs a new set of downs every time he throws the ball. Mahomes is averaging roughly five touchdowns per game in 2018. If he continues that trend for the rest of the season, he will break Peyton Manning’s 2013 record of 55 passing touchdowns in a season.
If he continues this dominance, he has the makings of being a great player.
