Letterkenny: Should Reilly/Jonesy Jump To Shoresy Spin-off?
When it comes to Letterkenny, the hockey players are a big part of the small-town feel of the show. Their brand of trash talk and chirpin’ from the bench have been some of the funnier moments throughout the series. While we can’t get enough of these scenes, would the duo of Reilly/Jonesy be a better fit on the newly spun-off series Shoresy, assuming it gets picked up for a second season?
The cast of Letterkenny keeps growing. With season 11 debuting and focusing on some of these other characters, not every one of them will get enough screen time. Each season is only running 6 episodes and the focus is on the main cast. If you’ve watched season 11 you’ll see characters like Tyson and Joint Boy were used sparingly. Bianca and Aly were missing as well. Hell, even Bonnie McMurray could’ve used more screen time. These characters weren’t a huge part of the season, but that’s not a bad thing. If at 11 seasons in you’re still wanting more of certain characters then a show is doing something right.
More Entertainment: Could Shoresy/Wayne Be Long-Lost Twins?
So that brings us back to Reilly and Jonesy. Some of their biggest laughs come at their own expense thanks to Shoresy. Would their presence be better suited for that show now that the cast is expanding on Letterkenny? The hockey players would still be a key part of Letterkenny as this season sets up the girls’ hockey to have their own storyline. Between Coach and Mary-Anne and a whole new setup, the jocks would still exist. Now you throw in the reemerging Degens, and the space is getting a little crowded.
So why not test the water with Reilly and Jonesy moving on to Shoresy with the occasional appearances on the original show? The setup wouldn’t even be that hard. Nat is on the lookout for new sponsors and gets in touch with the BroDude rep via Tannis. Cassie and Tassie find their way back to crawl back to BroDude. Reilly and Jonesy follow them to their new opportunity after being upset that none of the boys showed up for their birthday party. Unbeknownst to them, this new opportunity to play for one of the hottest hockey team going leads them right back to … Shoresy.
Let’s face it, we love the hockey players and don’t want to see them go anywhere. But with a little creativity, they could add huge laughs for the Letterkenny spin-off. Now instead of having the “native flu”, they get a lesson in toughening up from everyone’s favorite beauties, the Jims. 5,000 people in Letterkenny, and there’s only so much show to see their problems in. Shoresy might stand on its own as a show, but as their hockey days seem over maybe Reilly and Jonesy would be better suited on the spin-off.
