Long Island Ducks: A nice bounce back win as they look to win series
What a 24 hours it’s been for the Long Island Ducks. They opened the season losing to the Blue Crabs by the score of 6-1. As I mentioned in the recap, the hitting wasn’t there. The same can’t be said as the teams met again on Saturday night. The Ducks would end up winning by the score of 12-2. The winning pitcher was Jake Fisher. He ended up going 5 innings and gave up 8 hits on 2 runs. He would also strike out three. While he did let guys on, it was between his brilliant pitching and great hitting that the Ducks were able to keep the Blue Crabs off the board for most of the game. It also helps when you have a bullpen that throws for four innings, giving up no runs, and striking out five.
As far as the Ducks hitting, they got help from a few people. For starters, Jordany Valdespin had an enjoyable day. He would end up getting 4 hits in his five plate appearances. He would also get 3 runs. In addition, David Washington also would end up helping the Ducks. He would end up going 2 for five and drove in 4 runs. Since Fisher didn’t have the best night pitching, it truly helped to get the key hitting.
However, one of the issues I had was leaving six guys on base. It wouldn’t have mattered anyway due to how much of a win the Ducks had, but a few extra runs wouldn’t have hurt. It is still early, but if this is the Ducks team that we see in 2018 then teams like the Blue Crabs, Skeeters, and others will have time. The Ducks wrap up this series on Sunday with a start time of 2:05 pm.
After this series, the Ducks are set to face the Somerset Patriots for a three-game set before returning home for the home opener on Friday, May 4th against the Maryland Blue Crabs.
