Long Island Ducks: Another win with a strong bullpen
On Thursday, the Long Island Ducks were wrapping up their series with the New Britain Bees. They would end up winning the game 3-1 and taking the series as well. One of the biggest positives to be taken out of the first month of play for the Long Island Ducks is their ability to take the series. A few weeks into the 2018 season and the Ducks have had been involved in four series. They are the two with Southern Maryland, New Britain, and Somerset. Out of the four series, they have taken three of them. They couldn’t take the Somerset series a few weeks back.
As far as the Bees game on Thursday, the Ducks would end up turning to Bennett Parry to get the win. He would answer the call after pitching five innings, giving up one run on five hits. He would end up striking out six. After a 1-2-3 5th inning, Manager Kevin Baez would end up making the call to bring in pitcher Rob Rogers. Between Rogers, Tolliver, Pestano, and Rodriguez; the Ducks bullpen would end up pitching four innings, giving up 1 hit, walking 3, and striking out seven. It’s safe to say that they were shut down. However, we have seen this Ducks bullpen go through ups and down. However, it seems that since Francisco Rodriguez signed with the Ducks, it has now given Kevin Baez a great feeling knowing that he can turn to a closer that is shut down.
This was a quick road trip for the Ducks. These teams won’t clash again until the first weekend of June when the Bees come to Long Island. As far as the Ducks go, they come home now for a bit of a homestand. It’s worth noting that they are playing at home for most of May. In the first homestand, they will get their first look at the Sugar Land Skeeters and Philadelphia Road Warriors. The Skeeters are coming into the series with the Ducks on a two-game losing streak. The Skeeters are one of two teams who had a .500 record when playing the Long Island Ducks during the 2017 season, the other one was the New Britain Bees.
