Los Angeles Chargers: Offseason Panic Mode 2021 Edition

NFL Chargers QB Justin Herbert

The Los Angeles Chargers were one of the better bad teams in football this year. Rookie Justin Herbert showed he was ready to compete on an NFL level despite the struggles. If the new direction can’t get the team all on the same page fans might panic with wasted years for Herbert.

More Herbert, More Wins?

When the Chargers selected Herbert 6th overall they knew they were getting their future franchise quarterback. How well he played on the field this year made him the talk of many NFL circles. The lone problem is, how much will they rely on him going forward. While LA had a losing season, they found more ways to lose than they should have. Will the Chargers put more on his plate to get them over the top?

Can’t Win Them All

There were so many close games the Chargers should’ve one. Costly mistakes down the stretch were the main reasons to notch one in the L column. Discipline ended up being their biggest drawback after the year full of injuries. If the team can get healthy and stop committing mental errors, it might be an easy fix.

New Coach Quick Turn Around

Anthony Lynn was let go after a mediocre season last year. The Chargers were average at best but couldn’t close out games. New Head Coach Brandon Staley has to put the 2020 season behind them and get this team to buy in early on. It shouldn’t be too hard to do as they have talent but just need to buckle down.

Another Team, Another Line Upgrade

When you draft a franchise quarterback, you have to invest in his success. Too often do teams go out and get star playmakers but not stars on their line. If a young quarterback is Batman, their offensive line is Alfred. They’re the guy who protects your leader, knows his innermost workings, and is on the same page with every decision. The Chargers have their quarterback, now they need to eat, sleep, and breathe O-line until they get it right. If Herbert wants to continue to make splashy plays, he needs the time to do so.

The Los Angeles Chargers should be an easy team to fix. They’ve got the young talent, fair weather, and money to make it happen. There’s no way they should be falling that far behind in the race for the division.
