Los Angeles Lakers: 3 Free Agents Magic Johnson should target this offseason
The Los Angeles Lakers are right on the cusp. You wouldn’t think so by their 2016 record of 26-56. The team is young and under new direction, however, the goal is still the same– win a championship. Magic Johnson has the job of turning these young players into winners and if we know Magic– he always delivers. The Lakers hope they made the right choice with their No. 2 pick, however, it’s Free Agency that will either help or hurt the Lakers. Last season’s Free Agency haul didn’t quite work out for the team but they have a chance to rectify their mistakes in 2017.
With the NBA Draft over and the Lakers taking Lonzo Ball and moving on from the D’Angelo Russell phase and into the Ball and Brook Lopez chapter, the Lakers may have a chance to make some noise. However, their starting positions are all but locked in so they will look to focus on the reserve side of Free Agency.
Here are 3 Free Agent targets Magic Johnson should target.
Gordon Hayward
The Lakers appear to be sold on the talents of Brandon Ingram. He has the tools of a Paul George-like player but it will take some time to develop. Hayward is a solid scorer but he can offer the Lakers that extra intangible on the defensive end they hoped Luol Deng would bring. Here’s the thing with Hayward. At 6-8, he’s mainly played SF but he has the tools to be a great SG if called upon. The Lakers can bring Jordan Clarkson off the bench to lead the second unit, the same way Lou Williams used to do before being shipped to the Houston Rockets.

Bojan Bogdanovic
The Lakers now have the inside presence they were seeking and a PG who should think pass first before taking the offense into hs own hands. Wat they are missing is a player who can make a defense pay for collapsing down on Brook Lopez and Julius Randle. Bogdanovic is a sniper. He averaged 13 points for the Washington Wizards last season while shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc. When he’s hot, he’s unstoppable from deep. He will be a great addition to the second unit.
Ramon Sessions
Let’s be honest– there is no telling what to expect from Lonzo Ball his rookie year. He could thrive or he could be a huge bust. The Lakers are thin in the backcourt and will need a veteran player to come in just in case. Sessions will be cheap, he knows the ropes and he’s been in L.A. before. He can also help Ball adjust to life in the NBA will showing him a thing or two from a vets point of view.
