Los Angeles Lakers: Where Is Rajon Rondo?

Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are playing great basketball this season but have they already peaked? With LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way, many experts believe the Lakers are the team to beat in the Western Conference. However, a closer look will reveal that the Lakers could be in trouble come playoff time unless Davis and James get some help.

With the NBA trade dealing over and the Lakers not making any moves, that leaves current players to step their game up. But who? Who will be the players to take their game to the next level if and when the game slows down and their two starts have an off night in the playoffs?

One of those players must be PG Rajon Rondo. But the issue for him has been since arriving in Los Angeles, Rondo has either been injured or given a reduced role. This has to change if the Lakers are to be true contenders this season.

To be fair, this is not Rondo’s fault that he’s on this list. With LeBron James doing a majority of the ball-handling duties for the Lakers, coach Frank Vogel has taken what Rondo does best and handicapped him. At times, it’s as if he’s never watched Rondon play. Rondo, for his career, has averaged 10.3 points, 8.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game. So, why does he not have the ball in his hands setting up the offense?

James is a great player but when the playoffs arrive he needs to be fresh. Playing him as a point forward is great for the regular season but the minute the Lakers run into a team they have to face at least four games out of seven, adjustments will be made and then what? On the season, Rondo is averaging 7.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds while playing 20.7 minutes per game. This needs to change.
