Los Angeles Lakers: Why Is Dwight Howard Being Called Over-Hyped?
Why are some calling the Los Angeles Lakers signing of Dwight Howard over-hyped? According to Addam Goldman of Lake Show Life, ” He’s been one of the league’s most selfish players, a guy who’s only interest while on the court has been padding his stats”.
Even if that’s true, how many players in the NBA are doing the same? Some fans are still seething over Howard’s last trip while a member of the Lakers. That’s not fair. That team was built to win, but injuries and players were a bit younger then and just wasn’t ready.
This is what Goldman had to say about Howard;
It appears that most people believe that Dwight’s a changed man and his days of playing selfish basketball and being a locker room cancer are behind him.
Maybe Dwight Howard has transformed. Perhaps he did hit rock-bottom, and now he’s a new man. Anything’s possible.
All this may be true but a closer look would reveal that Dwight Howard has still been productive when given the minutes. While with the Charlotte Hornets in 2017, Howard averaged 16.6 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. In Washinton, he didn’t get a full chance to showcase his skills, so why the hate?
What the Lakers need is a defensive presence in the paint. Howard understands that this is his last tour. No team may offer him another chance like this on the open market. This is a do-or-die situation for his career and being as though he’s coming for a second trip, he may be on his best behavior.
