Los Angeles Rams: A Tougher Road to the Playoffs
Until the Super Bowl last year, it looked as if no team in the NFL would slow the Los Angeles Rams down. The team has been on a tear the past two seasons since head coach Sean McVay took over the team from Jeff Fisher and never looked back. Proving to be more than a one and done team dominating the NFL last season, this year might be a little tougher.
So far this season they’re still on a roll, averaging 28.5 points per game in the first two games and their strength of schedule should keep them on that pace for a few more games. With games against the struggling Bucs and Browns teams, Rams fans should be pleased. Even after letting up 27 points against a Carolina Panthers team in week 1 they rebounded to allow just 9 against the New Orleans Saints, who were without future Hall of Famer Drew Brees.
From there, it gets a little tougher though. Divisional games kick off in week 5 against a tougher defense in the Seattle Seahawks, then the unpredictable San Francisco 49ers, and never roll over Atlanta Falcons. They’ll have another rebound of schedule facing the inconsistent Cincinnati Bengals, a bye-week, then a shell of their former selves Pittsburg Steelers team who again won’t have their starting quarterback.
Baltimore, Seattle, Dallas, and San Fran again could be the tougher teams on the backside of their schedule. The rest of the division doesn’t seem to want to break out of their slightly above average slump, the Rams might still win the division. However, this season will be a truer test of how far they’ve truly come. There’s plenty of teams that could pull off the upset, as well as the unpredictable ones along the way. This might not be a 12-13 win team this season but 10 or 11 should win their division.
Should the Rams make the playoffs, the question is how banged up will they be with the tougher defensive schedule this year. Will the team hold up late in the season or fall back down to Earth? The Los Angeles Rams take on the Cleveland Browns this Sunday in the early game stack.
