Luke Cage: Are We Getting Heroes for Hire? – Cavemen Radio Show

Netflix is at it again. First, Iron Fist was the first Marvel property to be cancelled. Now the ax has come down on Luke Cage as well. After just 2 seasons, the Hero of Harlem is no more. Out of the two shows, this one stung a bit more. When season 2 wrapped, Luke was left in a very curious place in his story. With Mariah out of the picture, Luke was given ownership of Harlem’s Paradise. It left viewers wanting more. Clearly it was leading Luke down a dark path in a struggle for power and control in his city. Now we’ll never know.

Of course, just like Iron Fist, it doesn’t mean this is the end for our hero. There’s still the chance that Netflix and Marvel can revive The Defenders. However, the more likely scenario is Heroes for Hire. Isn’t it a bit obvious that the two characters who’s story would tie into Heroes for Hire, had both their shows cancelled just a few short days apart. Luke Cage teased this story throughout the second season. While fans would’ve loved to see this story arc down the road, it isn’t received well at the expense of two shows they’ve already invested in.

The even bigger question is, what happens to the secondary characters on these shows? If they consolidate the two shows due to lackluster performance, are these characters gone, never to be seen again? It’s either that or, they’ll have to expand past their 13 episode benchmark. There’s no way you can fit two shows worth of stories into 1 13 episode season and not feel like you’re rushing the entire thing.

Then, of course, there’s the Disney aspect of it all. The parent company to all Marvel properties could be jumping for joy that these two shows are cancelled. Can they now pick up the rights to them to bring over to their own streaming service? Will they jump on the chance to run them over to Hulu, following in the footsteps of Runaways. Netflix isn’t sold on having weekly releases where Hulu released Runaways week to week. Even DC Universe is releasing Titans every Friday instead of a whole season all at once. Netflix is axing a ton of original programs lately. Maybe now is time to make the jump to Hulu. Both as studios and fans.[CMRickTwitter]
