Luke Walton Is The Only Choice For The Sacramento Kings Coaching Job
Who’s going to coach the Sacramento Kings? The obvious answer is Luke Walton. He’s the only choice for a young roster. Don’t read too much into his time with the Lakers. This is a slam dunk hire for Sacramento if he’s available.
We need to preface any Luke Walton talk with, “if he gets fired.” The Lakers front office, now without Magic Johnson, needs to understand Walton isn’t the problem. LeBron is the catalyst for the issues Los Angeles had. He’s a coach killer. Add in Magic’s inept ability to manage the team, and it’s apparent Walton deserves better.
The Kings are a better opportunity for Walton. The Lakers had a young roster. In 2016-17, Walton increased the team’s win total by 9 games. During the 2017-18 season, he again increased the win total by another 9 games. But, Magic traded away D’Angelo Russell. Magic let Julius Randle walk in free agency.
How did Magic Johnson rebuild the Lakers? Well, he replaced Russell with Lonzo Ball and Rajon Rondo. Magic let Randle walk for Javale McGee and Micheal Beasley. And, when the Lakers found a quality young center in Ivaca Zubac, he traded him for (pardon my language) fucking Mike Muscala. Let’s not forget his great signing of Lance Stephenson.
Of course, LeBron James would fix everything. The infamous coach killer, LeBron James. Let’s just pair a bunch of average NBA vets and LeBron with emerging talent like Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram. Sorry, but I’d rather have D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram, and Kyle Kuzma than LeBron and some of the potential Space Jam 2 cast of NBA vets.
Look, Luke Walton might have had bad rotations. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. The Lakers were A poorly run franchise. Walton wasn’t the one who blew the thing up. Give him the talent of the Sacramento Kings. Watch what he does with a roster that hasn’t seen half of his All-Star talent traded away for one NBA Superstar.
If you think Luke Walton is the issue, you’re insane. There’s a huge benefit to the Kings snagging Walton if he becomes available. Don’t say otherwise. This is a homerun hire for the Sacramento franchise.
