Maleficent: Mistress of Evil trailer – Is Disney’s well running dry?

Maleficent

Disney keeps churning out the live-action movies with mixed reviews. No matter how you slice it, the money train keeps rolling in. At least their next one won’t be a live-action remake, but instead a sequel to a story already told. This year’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will follow up 2014’s Maleficent which told the story of Sleeping Beauty from a much different angle.

Check out the new official trailer for “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.” A follow-up to the 2014 global box-office hit with Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning reprising their roles as the dark fairy Maleficent and Princess Aurora, the film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville. “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” hits theaters nationwide October 18, 2019, just in time for Halloween.

This isn’t Disney’s first attempt at a sequel to a popular live action film. In 2016, Disney would follow up with Alice in Wonderland with Alice; Through the Looking Glass. Only this time around, Disney won’t have a true source material to base it off of like Through The Looking Glass. However, fans and critics alike loved Angelina Jolie as the title character and with a solid enough story, the sequel could have success.

The fact of the matter remains. How much longer can Disney keep milking stories for everything they’re worth before fans get bored? The studio doesn’t seem to be slowing down with Marvel films. Star Wars is wrapping up the Skywalker saga but will have multiple spinoffs. They’ve just purchased Avatar from their acquisition of Fox Studios, which will have multiple sequels. How much longer can the “House of Mouse” continue to be unoriginal? As long as their box office keeps turning over success stories more than likely.

What will Disney do 10 or so year’s from now when the entire catalog has been remade? What will happen when there are no more Star Wars to be told. After they’ve touched on every major comic story from Marvel, how long before superhero fatigue catches up? Disney’s riding a money train right now, but it looks like the well is drying up sooner than later.
