Martin: A Reboot Featuring The Love Story Between Pam and Tommy?

Earlier today, I was scrolling through Facebook and ran across a video titled Pam and Tommy: A Detroit Love Story. This is significant for all fans of the hit 90’s TV show, Martin. While there have been talks and rumors of a reboot of the hit comedy, director Bobby Huntley took it a step further and changed everything. Who needs Martin and Gina when we have Pam and Tommy.

Yes, Martin and Gina’s relationship was the focal point of the show but fans still wanted to see more of Tommy and Pam. They provided their own comic relief and while it appeared they were complete opposites, the truth is, they had more in common than Martin and Gina.

Now, with the reboot, Huntley took a page out of Bel-Air and turned this into more of a dramatic reboot than the comedy the original was based on. In truth, this was the best possible approach. With what the trailer showed, this could be better than the new Bel-Air.

Huntley may be using this as a movie but if done right, he could get a few seasons out of this. Peacock is now the go-to-place for reboots from shows from our younger years with Saved By The Bell and Bel-Air. So why not add an updated version of Martin to the streaming service of another such as Hulu?

Set with a new cast that includes the talents of Shuntel Renay, Frank Beckwith, Zae Diggs, Sharie Perri, and Kev Randall, this is sure to make them household names and add to Huntley’s collection of great work.

But will fans want to see a movie or show based on just Tommy and Pam? Yes. This is much different and will hopefully answer a few questions we never got answered in the original.

Let’s keep it real. The romance between Tommy and Pam was not going to work because they were better than Martin and Gina. Tommy was cooler and Pam had more enthusiasm, combined, they were better than their co-stars. There was no way Martin Lawrence was going to let them shine more than he was. But now, they have a chance to tell their own story but with a creative twist that no one saw coming.

The true story of the reboot would be Cole.

For most of the show, Cole chased Pam. With the reboot, this is a major focus. Pam and Tommy did their best to hide their relationship from Martin and Gina but it was really Cole who might be hurt the most. In his eye, that’s breaking the “Bro Code” but Cole and Pam were never an item. Since the new storyline is darker than the original, Huntley puts Cole in a space that changes the dynamic of his character and the direction of the plot.

In the new scenes, it appears that cole is tired of being made fun of, and he wants revenge on Tommy for taking Pam away from him. Much like Carlton and Will in the new Bel Air, this is a different take on their relationship and what fans are accustomed to.

And possibly we can finally get the answer to the question that has plagued fans’ minds for years. What exactly does Tommy do for a living? Since this is a darker version of Martin, maybe we can get the truth.

All in all, Tommy and Pam: A Detroit Love Story is something we needed and didn’t know we needed. Thank you Bobby Huntley for bringing this to light.
