Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD: Daisy Gets Her Moment Of Clarity

Daisy

Chloe Bennet is one hell of an actress. She can adapt to any scene but it’s her character on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD who has had the trouble adapting. From the first episode, it was clear who the star of this show was. While Phil Coulson made his bones in the Avengers saga, AOS decided it was going to center its storyline around Skye aka Daisy aka Tremors aka Quake.

Throughout the years, Daisy has been dealt bad hand after bad hand. Led to believe that her parents didn’t want nor love her, Daisy kept a chip on her shoulders. Even when Coulson tried to integrate her into the team, she balked at the notion of teammates. But most of all, she didn’t and couldn’t see the dynamic of family. So what has changed?

It wasn’t until last week’s episodes that it all made sense on why she is the way she is. This season has been pretty odd for Daisy. Think about it. She found her mother and father in previous seasons only to lose them. Then found out they were far different than what she had envisioned. She was lost in space, left for dead, became a hunted fugitive, lost two loves of her life, and then lost her father figure in Coulson. And yet, still trying to carry the weight of becoming the hero everyone knows she can be.

However, this season has been about time travel and figuring out a way to keep SHIELD relevant while fighting off aliens and the past. But something in her was still hollow. Mack is the new Director. Coulson a robot. May is different, and Simmons is missing her husband while trying to avoid any real contact or emotions connected to her own grandson. Let’s not forget the issue that Yo-Yo is dealing with regarding a new limb mixed with mental issues.

For Daisy, she finally accepted that SHIELD is her family but it has come as a cost. Enoch explained that this will be their last mission together as a team and that has left Daisy wondering why and what could be next?

Her heart-to-heart with Mack provided no real answers but it gave Daisy an outlook on life she has all but ignored. There is more out there for her if she’s willing to accept it.

The budding romance between Daisy and Agent Sousa was clear from the start. It was just a matter of Daisy being willing to open up. Now that she has, Mack had to be the one to explain it all. The best part about that scene was that many would have expected it to be Coulson to give her the green light but for it to come from her big brother Mack, was all the more special.

For Daisy, her unwillingness to accept the family, in the beginning, may have cost her time that she can’t get back. Mack and Yo-Yo are together. Deke has Fitz and Simmons and somewhere along with their new feelings and bodies, Coulson and May have each other. All that leaves is Daisy. She’s never thought about her own future. But now that she has strong feelings for Sousa, her growth is now complete.

Mack had to explain to her that family is more than traveling through time or fighting aliens. It does involve phone calls, stopping by, and having dinner. These are the things that Daisy has never experienced that the rest of the team experienced. This will always be her family.

However the story may end for the Agents of SHIELD, Daisy has a bright future ahead of her. And, by the looks of things, she may have lost her mother again but gained a sister in the process.

No more Grant Ward or Lincoln. Breaking the timeline and keeping Sousa alive was a smart decision by the writers. Now, for the first time ever, Daisy has a chance to be somewhat normal.
