Marvel’s Runaways: Season 2 trailer
With the future of their television series up in the air on Netflix, Marvel needs to go all in for Runaways on Hulu. Of the five Original Content shows, only Jessica Jones and Punisher remain. Most likely because they were already signed for another season before the rest of the shows started getting canceled.
With Hulu, Marvel has a more content friendly approach due to the show being able to release weekly than all at once on Netflix. Sure binge-watching is how most people catch up on their shows these days, but luckily for them, they still can once the last episode airs so long as viewers want to be a few weeks behind. Season 2 of Runaways starts this Friday and it already looks as if the Hulu series will kick it up a notch:
When we last saw the Runaways, as the title suggests, they were on the run from their parents and the evil organization Pride. Season 1 saw our heroes journey down the rabbit hole of who their parents really were, what Pride’s evil motives are, and discovering the extent of their powers.
Season 2 looks to be where it all comes together. Turning the page on the mystery and intrigue from season 1, this season will show how the team learns to trust each other and work together. With a 10 episode shortened season most streaming shows air, the real question remains is how well can they move the story forward? Will the extent of this season move past just a feud with their parents and running from their control? Can they set up a true singular villain most superhero shows have? What will slow the growth of the series will be whether or not they can move past just the overshadowing of Pride and their parents. As a viewer, if they can’t establish a story past this season 1 arc, the show will be dead in the water. We need to see new secondary characters, new turmoil, and new growth out of our main characters or it will seem that too many storylines are dragged out and with shorter seasons, it will quickly get frustrating.
Marvel’s Runaways was a success for Hulu where many thought it might not survive. After all, Netflix was a juggernaut at the time and an obscure comic from their library combined with weekly releases kept excitement limited. Now that the show has a decent following, hopefully, the studio kicked it up a notch with both effects and story. Can season 2 top the success of season 1? Find out as Marvel’s Runaways airs Friday, December 21st.
