Matthew Dellavedova Is Back Home In Cleveland

Cavs Matthew Delladova

Cleveland fans are rejoicing, as Matthew Dellavedova is returning to the Cavs. It’s almost like a homecoming for Delly, who spent the first years of his career in the city. There might never be a player who’s captured the hearts of a city more than the Australian native has.

You’d never think a player who has career averages of 5.8 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists would instantly ignite a fan base. The relationship the city of Cleveland has with Dellavedova means so much more than basketball. He embodies what it’s like for those who live in Cleveland.

Delly is a lunch pail guy. He’ll get on the court, do the dirty work, and play with 100% hustle every game. You’ll never have to worry about him taking a play off. The city of Cleveland appreciates him more than ever. Given his performances in big games, there’s nobody who can equate to the same value as he can with this team.

Everyone in Cleveland remembers Game 3 of the 2015 NBA Finals. Delly scored 20 points, getting so dehydrated in the process he needed an IV after the game. It’s that kind of determination and drive which makes him so beloved in the city. He remains to this day one of the cities all-time sports heroes.

His hard work on the court have garnered Delly a reputation as a dirty player. Indeed, he can have his moments. Cavs fans might have turned a blind eye to this. The fact is, Matthew Dellavedova isn’t a dirty player, rather one that plays with so much intensity he doesn’t stop.

Milwaukee never used Delly the right way. He’s not going to be a 10+ point per game scorer, nor will he average 7+ assists. The Bucks thought they were getting one of the league’s up and coming PG’s. When they didn’t get that, Delly became expendable. He rarely saw the court this season. Now, he’ll head to Cleveland, where the minutes are going to be there for him.

Tristan Thompson, who also won a title with the Cavs knows how much Delly means to the team. Thompson spoke to the media, with this quite coming courtesy of the Cavs via their Twitter page.

Thompson is right, expect Dellavedova to receive playing time with the Cavs. Colin Sexton still has a lot of development left. Delly will be a positive influence for the rookie. One hope is he teaches Sexton on how to be a better overall PG. Given that Sexton is the face of the franchise, it’d only make sense for Delly to teach basic skills for his position.

Cedi Osman is currently the fan favorite in Cleveland. He’s not going to keep that honor much longer. Aside from LeBron, there’s been no return as talked about as Delly. Winning the NBA Championship will always be a moment in Cleveland sports. Matthew Dellavedova was part of that historic team. The Cavs fans will welcome him back with open arms.
