The MCU, while productive, has been in limbo as of late. After the events of Avengers: Endgame the movies still exist in the shared universe but don’t hold a shared universal plot such as the Infitinity Saga. With their next two releases that should all change. There will be a lot revealed in Thor: Love & Thunder and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness should crossover into either tying a few titles together, or setting up the future of the Marvel Universe. Luckily for us, we now have a teaser for what the next Thor will look like:

From IMDB.com

Thor’s retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Thor is one of the few original Avengers left as far as the movies are concerned. The fourth installment of his movie may be the proper sendoff we’re looking for. It would be odd to carry on his story despite the rest of the team getting closure. Even after Thor: Love & Thunder, we can still expect to see the God of Thunder in a GotG support role.

So how will Thor: Love & Thunder pass that torch? Now that the teaser has revealed that Jane Foster will be in fact taking over as Thor, Will this be the passing of the torch? Will it be Valkarie that takes up the hero mantle by the movie’s end? Or will it wrap everything up in a neat little bow with all of our characters riding off into the sunset despite leaving a hint of a loose thread left behind?

Thor: Love & Thunder ought to bring closure to the final member of the original Avengers team. Marvel and the MCU might be moving on from that cast of characters but the movies themselves show no signs of slowing down.
