The Meg – A New Twist on an Old Classic – Cavemen Radio Show

Warner Bros. might be struggling in the superhero world but that’s not stopping them from trying new ideas. The studio responsible for Batman v Superman is trying their hand at an old favorite. Jaws burst on the scene in 1975 and forever changed the way people felt about the beach. Now the studio is looking for a new twist on an instant classic. With The Meg, sharks could take fear to a whole new level.

The Meg looks to capitalize on two of people’s favorite beast, dinosaurs, and sharks. True the megalodon isn’t an actual dinosaur but their sheer size alone draws a comparison to the prehistoric creatures. Not only have sharks been the stars on the big screen, people have fallen for these majestic water creatures on the small screen as well. Shark Week has gone from a niche television viewing to an all-day event to die-hard fans. Could the studio ride out the magic? With action star Jason Statham, Ruby Rose, and Rainn Wilson attached to the project and the trailer alone, The Meg either will be full of suspense or stray off the beaten path with a little extra comedy. Something about the upbeat cheerful music suggests a mix of both.

From Google.com

“A massive creature attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. With time running out, rescue diver Jonas Taylor must save the crew and the ocean itself from an unimaginable threat — a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon.”

With the horror genre pushing the envelope of the supernatural more and more, the film industry has moved away from fears people can see and touch. In the 90’s there were films like Anaconda and Arachnophobia that were based on real fears people had in these animals. Now, too many movies rely on unexpected noises, things popping up out of nowhere and creepy music to build the horror in the theater. It would be nice to go back to the days where the unexpected or gore ruled the horror scene. The Meg might be a bit too sci-fi to capture the movie magic of the original Jaws, but it might just be what brings back fears into horror films. Set to release on August 10th, will The Meg make you have second thoughts about the beach? Don’t forget to vote on the trailer![CMRickTwitter]
