Miami Dolphins: Are They The Best Team In 2022?
No, that’s not a gotcha headline to troll the Bills, Chiefs, or any other fans. There’s a real sentiment being discussed this year about whether the Miami Dolphins are the best in the league this year and if they have a good shot at the Super Bowl. According to former NFL WR Emannuel Sanders on the NFL Network, the Dolphins are the best/scariest team in the NFL. Kurt Warner went on to say that the Dolphins could win that division and go on to win the Super Bowl. So are they the “scariest” team this year?
Miami is coming off a bye week but the rest of the division played in week 11. The Jets and Patriots canceled each other out as the Jets needed to win to claim the first-place spot in the division. The Patriots were a couple of games behind so they only pulled within one of first place. The Buffalo Bills got their win over the Cleveland Browns, but as of this post, the Dolphins still hold the tiebreaker in division wins and the head-to-head win.

Give the Dolphins some credit. Yes, they have three losses on their record, but those losses came in games without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. In their first loss, he left the game with a concussion and missed the next couple of games. If you rewind the tape to before that play, the Dolphins were moving the ball as easily as they had any other game this year. Not to mention, that was before their big trade at the deadline this year, or should I say two big trades. Miami went out and got a playmaker in Bradley Chubb to help resolve their struggles on defense.
But they also made a move on offense for Jeff Wilson Jr. who looks to be carrying the load for the Miami Dolphins and offering up explosive plays. Between him and Raheem Mostert, The Miami Dolphins have an exciting combo in the backfield. Of course, there’s Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill to account for. Then on top of that, there’s Mike Gesicki to monitor. Even Trent Sherfield coming into his own. Miami does have one of the scariest offenses.
However, there are two sides of football. While the Miami Dolphins look like champions on offense, they’re struggling with consistency on defense. Chubb stepped in and helped them against the Cleveland Browns before the bye, but the Browns themselves are struggling. The Dolphins have had plenty of “bend but don’t break” halves of football, but they’ve struggled to make plays for all four quarters. They’re not the same defense that was getting turnovers. Injuries are stacking up. They need to get healthy and find a way to keep up with the high-powered offenses. Their offense can get it done, but they need to show the same explosiveness on defense.
When it’s all said and done, hype doesn’t win championships. Until the Miami Dolphins can knock off the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, or any other playoff-caliber team in the cold weather, it’s hard to crown them the champs. Miami is doing some great things and may have their chance this year, but let’s not buy our Super Bowl tickets just yet.
