Miami Dolphins: Brian Flores Deserves Coach Of The Year

Miami Dolphins HC Brian Flores

It doesn’t matter how the rest of the season turns out, Brian Flores deserves Coach of the Year with the Miami Dolphins. To be the first team in history that started off so bad and is now in contention for a playoff spot is unheard of. The team won their first game of the year and fell apart and despite the odds being against them, can actually make the playoffs.

Save that bs narrative “They haven’t really played anyone” for someone who doesn’t know football. You can follow those talking heads on ESPN who are just promoting certain teams for ratings, but this is the NFL. Maybe they have beat bad teams down the stretch, but they also lost to bad teams early in the season. Remember when they lost back-to-back games against the Jaguars (2-13) and Falcons (7-8)? Neither of those teams are NFL powerhouses and the Miami Dolphins took ugly losses in both games.

Miami Dolphins Safety Jevon Holland

Remember when the defense came out of the gate sort of struggling leading fans to flood social media with the “(player A) is such a bust, we should’ve drafted (Player B)? Now their defense resembles the same tough defense that was turning the ball over and snuffing out offensive production. All of a sudden fans are on board with just how naturally Jevon Holland fit in his role on defense. You won’t hear a peep out of those same fans about Jaelan Phillips now that he’s 1/2 sack behind Emanuel Ogbah for the team lead.

So far this season, Brian Flores has had to deal with a lot. Not only was Tua Tagovailoa injured to start the season, he had to navigate the covid burdened matchup against the Jets. There was the DeShaun Watson talk/distraction. Certain analysts wondered if he was on the hot seat early in the year. Everyone had their opinion on the two OCs this year. There was more noise this season than most teams have to go through and Flores kept his head down and kept working. He handled everything that came to him professionally and took responsibility from day one.

“The Miami Dolphins haven’t beaten anyone” shows just how much you get your opinions from figureheads at ESPN. Let’s not forget those Miami Dolphins who started the season beating the New England Patriots on their home turf. Those same New England Patriots who everyone is going on and on about being Super Bowl contenders. The same Patriots who have a similarly easy schedule of opponents.

Miami walked away from Baltimore and New Orleans with victories as well, both teams are playoff contenders. The fact that the Dolphins are winning games they’re “supposed to be winning” this late in the season is exactly why Brian Flores deserves coach of the year. In today’s NFL, you don’t get a free pass just because your opponent is struggling. The Bills lost to the Jaguars, the Pats to the same Saints the Dolphins just beat. Save your covid excuses, no one was making them for Miami when they had one healthy RB going into their matchup with the Jets.

The Miami Dolphins might be “pretenders” in your mind, but what Brian Flores has done in turning this team around deserves some respect.
