Miami Dolphins: Don’t Buy Into Miami For Fantasy Football

Miami Dolphins Receiver Devante Parker

The Miami Dolphins are a team on the rise, there’s no doubt about it. While they are making strides towards being competitors in both the AFC East and the postseason, there’s a great deal of reason to try and avoid them in fantasy football.

Quarterback

Maybe in deeper leagues or two QB leagues, it would be a good deal to look into Tua Tagovailoa, but if you don’t have a full league, there will be better options. Not that the Miami quarterback won’t make strides this season the Dolphins will again be a defensive team. The offense should find themselves in good field position more often than not again this year, but they’ll take advantage of whatever is given to them in the air or on the ground. They won’t be as aggressive.

Running Back

The Dolphins again avoided the running back position in the draft this year until the later rounds. While they might not have wanted to overpay, there was a need to upgrade. Instead, Miami chose to upgrade its line in hopes of creating lanes. The only problem is, they’ll need to rely heavily on receivers having near-perfect games to make sure those lanes are clear. In the right game plan, defenses will dare Tua to beat them with his arm.

Receivers

Miami will have plenty of ways to spread the football. Too bad for fantasy GMs, it will be inconsistent on a weekly basis. You’ll see a Dolphins team that will attack the mismatches and it will be hard to predict on a weekly basis which receiver will have the favorable matchups. If they do have a favorable matchup, will they break the trend of inconsistent play week to week?

Defense

This will be the strength of the Dolphins team but their bend/don’t break will challenge fantasy owners. Miami gets turnovers but will face a schedule that’s full of offensive playmakers who can easily turn a game around. More often than not, they’ll be in a tit-for-tat matchup needing to answer back just as quickly as their opponents. With that being said, they could benefit from turnovers enough to carry fantasy points if a game is close.

The Miami Dolphins are a team that will do great things this year, but nothing about this team screams “powerhouse”. They’ll make plays that will win games but it won’t be raining points on fantasy owners.
