Miami Dolphins: Don’t Expect Big Moves Before The Trade Deadline
The Miami Dolphins have made some pretty interesting trades over the last few seasons in hopes of turning them into Super Bowl contenders. So far it has paid off with the play on the field but hasn’t pushed a late-playoff run. With players such as Bradley Chubb, Tyreek Hill, and Jalen Ramsey Miami has made some serious strides. However, with Tuesday’s trade deadline, don’t expect the Miami Dolphins to be too active.
First, Miami might have some money coming off the books in the offseason, but that doesn’t mean they’re not strapped for cash now. There are still players on the roster they can’t afford to let go. Key playmakers such as Christian Wilkins, Andrew Van Ginkel, Nik Needham, and Brandon Jones all could hit free agency at the year’s end. Not to mention the back of the roster guys. Looking at their potential free-agent pool, and their current cap situation might slow down their plans.

More importantly, though is the fact that the Miami Dolphins are pretty well stacked. Do they have some holes to fill, sure. However, the majority of their struggles come from depth being able to fill roles due to injuries. The defense is struggling due to a preseason injury to Ramsey, Xavien Howard nursing an injury, Needham being out, and Brandon Jones coming back from injury. Now Jevon Holland is down. Kader Kohou was a standout last season but is struggling against top-tier receivers regularly. When you’re down that many players it’s a big deal. When you’re down that many playmakers in one facet of the defense it’s an even bigger one.
On offense, they’ve had just as many injuries. Jaylen Waddle has had his injury scares this season. De’Von Achane going down was a huge loss. Terron Armstead is the anchor on their offensive line. Connor Williams holds a key position on the offensive line as did Isaiah Wynn. Miami might not need to make moves, they just need to hold the line until they get healthy.
But just because we say it, doesn’t mean it will happen. Chris Grier is a crafty dude. If he can find a way to improve the Miami Dolphins, he’s going to improve the Miami Dolphins. The trade deadline is 4 pm Tuesday. We expect Miami to stay put, but I wouldn’t count them out.
