Miami Dolphins: Is Tyreek Hill Overhyping Tua Tagovailoa?
There are fewer things more important to an offense than the chemistry between the quarterback and his wide receivers. Big plays can happen all over the field but to stretch the offense, the QB/WR due needs to be in sync. When the Miami Dolphins picked up wide receiver Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs, they acquired one of the best WRs in the league to pair with the, now third-year vet Tua Tagovailoa. The duo needs to be on point going into the 2022 season, and Tyreek Hill is already hyping up his new QB. Is he overhyping how good Tua is, or is the Dolphins franchise QB finally coming into his own?
When it comes to having his QBs back, Hill instantly came to Tua’s defense when the internet fandom blew up over an underthrown ball in practice. He was right as nothing really matters in the month of June. Tagovailoa could throw a football over those mountains one day, and the media and “fans” will focus on the one pass he wobbled in there. It’s easily understood as Dolphins fans have been looking for a reason to be hopeful for years. Each year “it’ll be different” and it usually ends up being just the same.
More Miami Dolphins: Do Dolphins Need to Blow Teams Out To Be Successful?
This year, however, is a bit different. On paper, they haven’t had the talent level to this extent in some time. They’ve had playmakers over the years, but none as established as Tyreek Hill. So far he’s been very vocal about his new teammate. While that’s all well and good, is he just adding fuel to an already out-of-control fire. I get football is filled with trash talk but confidence is one thing, being able to back it up is another.
At this point in the season, the Miami Dolphins have every reason to be confident but to be fair, so does the rest of the league. The latest round of bulletin board material out of Hill comes from his podcast where he proclaimed his former QB Patrick Mahomes might have a better arm, but Tua Tagovailoa is more accurate. Even if that were the case, Mahomes is well established as one of the top quarterbacks in the league. Mahomes has won a Super Bowl, where Tagovailoa still has many doubts.
There’s nothing wrong with hyping your teammate up, but to start comparing him to one of the tops in the game without it showing up on Sunday is a bit premature. If Tagovailoa can show up for the Miami Dolphins and absolutely ball out, Hill will have the last laugh. The Dolphins need it to be true. The young QB showed plenty of promise at the collegiate level, but the verdict is still out whether he’ll be the guy or not.
