Miami Dolphins: No, Tom Brady Isn’t Coming to Miami

Patriots QB Tom Brady

Alright Dolfans, relax. Yes, there has been rumor after rumor of Tom Brady moving on from the New England Patriots this offseason. There’s even persisting rumors that he’d like to end up as a member of the Miami Dolphins. Furthering the rumors, he’s down to choosing Los Angeles or Miami. But let’s not get your hopes up just yet that Old Man Brady is going to end up in a Dolphins uniform.

While Brady is a winner and a multiple Super Bowl Champ, it makes almost zero sense for the Dolphins to make this move. The lone bright spot of this move would be able to lure free agents down to Miami.

Without typical Miami hate for Tom Brady, Miami doesn’t have enough pieces in place for Brady to be the same type of winner he is in New England. Yes, coaches should jump at the chance to add a career 10-game/season winner. Just as surely, they’d bet the farm to own a multiple Super Bowl winner.

The problem is, would they do it for a one year player? Would they do it for a team that doesn’t have one of the top defenses in the league? How much would they be willing to spend on a 42-year old player who some claim is a system quarterback behind a weaker offensive line?

There’s no doubt that Tom Brady is a winner, but he’s a winner in New England with a lot of the right pieces in place. For fun, think of Brady as the Michael Jordan of football. Jordan was a dominant player, but it was his role players that elevated his great game to elite. Where would MJ be without Pippen, Kerr, Cartwright, and Rodman? The same could be said of Brady with Gronkowski, Edelman, Hernandez, and Amendola.

The Miami Dolphins have a handful of talent that could be a good supporting cast for Tom Brady. However, adding TB to a team that needs a bit more depth and talent isn’t going to catapult them into Super Bowl favorites. If not for Brian Flores’ connection to New England the rumors might not be as persistent. Miami traded away talent last season knowing they had a long road ahead. They wouldn’t turn around a year later and pay top talent when they’d have just as many holes. Sorry Dolfans, Tom Brady isn’t coming to Miami.
