Miami Dolphins: Questioning the Motive of The Mike McDaniel Hire
It appears the Miami Dolphins have found their next head coach in Mike McDaniel. He’ll come over from the San Francisco 49ers where he was the offensive coordinator and will be in charge of making the Dolphins contenders. The problem is, was he really the best fit for the job or was Miami trying to cover their own mistakes.
Before we even get into the bickering back and forth, this has nothing to do with McDaniel. He’s been named around the league as one of the top offensive minds in football. Unless he proves otherwise, there’s no reason to doubt it just yet. After all, Jimmy Garrapolo looked much better this season and San Fran won 10 games.

What really has to be brought into question is how they landed on McDaniel. In the time before his hire, the rumor going around was how much the Dolphins loved McDaniel and he was the front runner. The big news was how he declared he can win with Tua Tagovailoa. That had to be music to the Miami Dolphins’ ears. Their front office had to love hearing they can make a winner out of a struggling quarterback.
Hopefully, he can. There’s nothing against Tua or McDaniel. However, without explanation, this sounds like a panic hire. The Dolphins have been widely criticized for their handling of Tagovailoa over the past few seasons. If they hired McDaniel on that declaration alone, then they’re trying to cover their own asses. Between the talk of trading for Watson, the talk of bringing in an unknown quarterback, the rumors of tanking and trying to trade for Burrow. Now, this is where they are. They have to make it seem like Tua was their choice all along. They have to back-peddle and cover up any talk of wanting to bring in someone else.
This is a grand illusion. It’s not that they don’t believe in Tua, they might. The Miami Dolphins are simply playing a game and trying to prove this was their plan all along. I hope McDaniel proves he’s as smart as they say and he can win with Tua. McDaniel as a coach isn’t what is in question. The hire shows just how much this organization will do to try and cover its tracks. Mike McDaniel might be the best coach out there, there’s no taking that away. However, he’s not in question. The Miami Dolphins have been real shady lately and they need him to succeed.
