Miami Dolphins Shouldn’t Take Jets Matchup Lightly
If ever there was a trap game on the Dolphins schedule, it’s Sunday against the New York Jets. Get all the laughter out now, but the AFC East has these games every year. The Bills, Jets, or Dolphins could be as bad as a team gets but still find ways to win divisional games.
It’s true, the Jets might be historically bad but when it comes to the Miami Dolphins Adam Gase might have a chip on his shoulder. After being praised as the quarterback guru down in Florida that was going to turn the organization around, Gase was quickly fired due to the lack of development of young talent. Expect his Jets to throw everything at the Dolphins including the kitchen sink just to play spoiler on their rebuild hopes.
Then of course there’s the brilliant game of Ryan Fitzpatrick against the 49ers. If his entire career has been an indicator, there’s a good chance he follows up a great game with a not so great one. Even after being dang near perfect against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Fitzpatrick follows it up with a not so great performance against the Seattle Seahawks. If the Dolphins want to keep this season on track, Fitz will have to break that trend and be the winner that attacks the passing game.
More Dolphins: Proving the Rebuild Is Working
While Miami is on a roll, there’s still the matter of lingering injuries. Miami faced a beaten down Niners team and walked away looking like kings. However, the injuries are starting to pile up and we’ll have to see if the “next man up” mentality can finally fit the bill. Shaq Lawson and Kyle Van Noy where big offseason acquisitions have been limited all week. Davon Godchaux has been a centerpiece on this defense just hit the IR. Who will be the ones to step up when the Dolphins need them most?
It’s been a long while since the Miami Dolphins have been favored to win but will be favored on Sunday. While no game in the NFL is a guarantee, Miami needs to keep t foot on the gas to prove this rebuild is on course. Anything less than a blowout against the Jets should be considered a setback.
