Miami Dolphins: Strong Finish Won’t Effect the Draft

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick

All over social media, Miami Dolphins fans are freaking out. Where will the team draft? Who will they pick? What position do they attack first? At the end of the day, none of that matters today, next week, or a month from now. The Dolphins pick does not matter until the day of the draft. Speculating is pointless because they’re no where near ready to make their pick.

The most important thing for Dolphins fans to remember is, even if they fall in the draft order they can still end up with a top  pick. They can win out and end outside the top 5. There can be some long dragged out mathmatically anomoly and they could end up with the first pick overall. But it doesn’t matter. The Miami Dolphins set up their 2020 season by stockpiling money and picks to do whatever the heck they want on draft day.

2019 was always going to be a season of evaluation. Who’s willing to play hard when the chips are down and the playoffs aren’t in site. With two games left in the season, Miami will find out who’s really willing to trust the process and who’s playing for their spot on a new team.

Miami has already rewarded guys like Devante Parker for commiting to improving after having arguably his best season. They’re not looking to lose out for draft stock. The coaches appear ready to win out to find out who’s going to be the cornerstone players who carry this young team through tough times. Truth be Told, 2019 is a contract year for a lot of Dolphins players.

With that being said, fans are still looking forward to the NFL Draft next season. As fans, its easy to look ahead when the season has gone so wrong. Left with only speculation, no matter what the Miami Dolphins do the rest of the season, they’re 100% getting their guy come draft day.

The Dolphins will be on the phone presumably all day. If they end up deeper in the top ten, whos to say they don’t call up a team like the Bengals who didn’t expect to be a 1-win team this year and offer up some of their overstocked picks for the first. They can trade 1 of their three, paired with a two or later or even take a bloated contract on to help Cincy’s cap space assuming they’re the first pick.

Worrying about next year’s draft is a futile debate because no one knows where they’ll be and what cards they hold. The Dolphins have enough ammo to accomplish whatever the heck they want come draft day. The final two games this season, fans should focus on who they want to see from this team here next season.
