Miami Dolphins: Success For The Future
When Stephen Ross had Miami move on from Adam Gase and hired Brian Flores he did so giving complete authority for a rebuild. His thought process was to let Flores and Chris Grier build a core to strip the Miami Dolphins down to the bare bones and build a winner. Not just a “win, now” quick turnaround, one that would be built for long-term success.
First came the trades. Miami traded everything but the goalposts to acquire picks after their first losing season under Flores. Fans were hurt with seeing talented players jettisoned from the team and wondered if the Dolphins made the right call. After all, they were basing their current success on journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzmagic has had a career full of ups and downs so Dolphins fans should relate, but in the long run, the bigger picture wasn’t as clear.
Fast forward to the next NFL Draft and starting with rookie Tua Tagovailoa the Dolphins started building their future. Despite early struggles, Miami was on its way to being a winning team. As another shock to fans, they’d switch to Tagovailoa mid-season. Just like their past season, his struggles started early, had some bright moments but ultimately lead to disappointment.
More NFL: Miami Dolphins – It doesn’t Matter Which QB They Draft
On to the next offseason and everyone is talking about how Miami is looking to move on from Tua Tagovailoa and replace him with star player Deshaun Watson. That was until the trades made just weeks before the draft where the Dolphins traded out of their third pick overall back to number 12. Then they’d trade back into the top 10 sending their 12th pick from San Francisco and Miami’s pick next year to the Eagles to move back into the sixth spot. If Miami wasn’t sure on Tua they were in a prime position to land a quarterback this year while there was plenty to take.
However, the proof is in the pudding when it comes to their overall game plan. The Miami Dolphins have taken the picks from trading away Laremy Tunsil to the Texans and turned them into multiple picks in the first round over the next 3 years. 5 picks to be exact. If they don’t make another move between now and those drafts, they’ll have 13 picks in the first 3 rounds of those drafts.
But of course, that’s just the icing on the cake. When it comes to young talent, the Miami Dolphins have no player over the age of 30 on their current roster. Every single player on this team will be playing for their future in Miami. They’re young and hungry and know that payday is coming they just have to earn it. Miami will be a team full of talent looking to develop and prove they deserve that big payday and that’s a recipe for success.
