Miami Dolphins: The Tua Tagovailoa Problem

Miami Dolphins Tua Tagovailoa

When he’s on the field for the Miami Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoa has proven he can be just as flashy as the next guy. The key phrase is “when he’s on the field”. There’s no denying both his electric spark to the offense nor is there denying his injury history. With that being said, Chris Grier has gone on record to say that the team is not scared to sign Tua to a long-term deal, but should they be?

Even if the Miami Dolphins take into consideration the injuries Tua has sustained and even if they have their reservations he’s still their guy. At the end of the day, the offense ran at a much higher level than any other quarterback on their roster. That’s not to say that the team wasn’t in position to win a few of the games Tua was out, but the wind was out of their sails for sure.

More Miami Dolphins: Will the Defense Be The Offseason Focus?

Do the Dolphins have cause for concern? Absolutely, football is a contact sport. However, they should have no more cause for concern than any other player on their roster. Miami lost a lot more than Tua Tagovailoa this season. Byron Jones was out for the season, as was Brandon Jones. Xavien Howard played through an injury. Terron Armstead showed up on the injury report a few times. Trill Williams was making a name for himself in Miami before he got hurt. The list can go on and on for injuries to the 2022-2023 squad. Should the Dolphins not resign every player who gets injured?

But facing the music, it Tua Tagovailoa is an injury concern then the Miami Dolphins need to make smart football decisions. Not decisions that involve moving on from the young QB. No, if Miami believes Tua is their guy and if they believe he’s injury prone then they need to find their next Matt Moore as a backup for Tua. Matt Moore for the Miami Dolphins often would come in out of a backup role and provide a spark in relief work. He never quite found his footing as their answer, but he got the job done until the starter came back. Miami doesn’t need to move on from Tua Tagovailoa nor should they worry about his injury history. They just need to be smart on how they form a backup plan if the trend continues.
