Miami Dolphins: Welcome To The Circus
Even before the report that Brian Flores was suing the NFL and three other teams, the Miami Dolphins’ coaching job was already going to be a nightmare. Now that the report is out, there’s plenty of damage control to smooth over well before the new league year kicks off the offseason.
Whoever takes over this Miami Dolphins team better have an appetite because their plate will be full. There’s the damage control and public relations they’ll have to navigate. He’ll have to sell fans and reporters that he can get the team over 10+ wins. Despite their struggles, Brian Flores had the team winning 10 games two years ago and 9 games last season. He’ll have to convince anyone without a doubt that Tua Tagovailoa can put on the kind of show that Josh Allen and Joe Burrow did this postseason. There’s already the rough waters to navigate around the last year’s disgruntled Xavien Howard. Not to mention the number of players they’ll be losing this offseason if they can’t manage to resign. Luckily for the next guy, they’ll have plenty of cap space.

That’s even before the Dolphins can get in shells for summer camps. It’s just the tip of the iceberg. Despite the Miami Dolphins being one of the more appealing jobs in the NFL, the circus that surrounds the team is bound to steer potential coaches away. This isn’t the usual coaching search that ends with one of the young and fresh faces taking control. Whoever it is may be, has to do a ton of damage control. Not just for the media, he has to go in and reassure the team that this is the place to be, he’s the guy to get them to the championship, and convince free agents there’s more in Miami than just money.
Right now, you wouldn’t think the Miami Dolphins were still in the top 10 winningest teams in the Super Bowl era. They’ve had a slippery slope for the past two decades. The organization has a history of strong talent and passionate fans. Unfortunately, the guys making the decisions at the top have been selfish and treated this organization and its fans with disrespect. When the Miami Dolphins hire a new head coach, hopefully, they’ll have thick skin. They’re going to need it.
