Miami Dolphins: Which WRs Are Most Likely To Be Cut? Part 1

Miami Dolphins Receiver Devante Parker

Between inconsistency and injuries, the 2020 season was not the best we’ve seen out of the Miami Dolphins receiving unit. They struggled to get separating, lacked big plays, and couldn’t seem to stay on the field long enough to be game-changers. After the 2021 NFL Draft and free agency, all a sudden the Miami Dolphins have an abundance of talent to catch the football.

So who will most likely be the odd man/men out at the end of camp? Miami currently has 11 receivers, or 12 if you count Malcolm Perry from the RB room. They’re also carrying 5 tight ends. That’s not including the draft. With the salary cap looking a little tight the receivers could be thinned out drastically come week 1.

DeVante Parker

Parker might be the least likely to move of the bunch without including the newly acquired players. Parker has been inconsistent and hurt at times, but still has the explosiveness that could benefit from the Fuller and Waddle duo. Still, if a team came knocking and wanted to throw a crazy deal the Dolphins’ way, it wouldn’t be unheard of to see him move.

Allen Hurns/Albert Wilson

While each of the two receivers has their pros/cons, they have to be lumped together because they follow a similar path. Wilson and Hurns chose to opt-out for covid and it shouldn’t be held against either one of them. The problem they’ll both face now, with two new shiny weapons, they’ll have to put twice the effort in to stand out that much more. Miami isn’t going to give up on their rookie or first season with the team player, so they’ll need to take the spot of a veteran who earned favor last year.

Jakeem Grant

Jakeem Grant is probably the one veteran who’s been with the team a few years who’s most in danger of being cut. He’s got speed, he’s got heart, and he’s got everything you’re looking for in a wide receiver. Grant has had some great play during his career, but he’s also been the victim of some mental errors. Unfortunately, if the Dolphins want to get to the next level they’ll need consistency. The writing was on the wall here when Miami drafted Waddle who also excels at returns.

Preston Williams

Another casualty of inconsistency, Preston Williams might not make the roster next season. Despite making a name for himself with Miami, his injuries are hurting both him and his chances. He may slip on the depth chart, but he could be one of the fringe players who round out a solid unit. It would be hard to watch him leave as his potential has shown through, but from the business side of things, the Dolphins need to get to the next level.
