Minnesota Twins: Michael Pineda Suspended 60 Games For PEDs
According to Bleacher Report, Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Michael Pineda received a 60-game suspension from Major League Baseball for violation of the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, MLB first issued an 80-game suspension but was later reduced as a compelling story was that that it was not used to mask PEDs. If that was true then what does 20 games mean in the grand scheme of things?
While the Twins are leading the Central Divison with an 87-54 record, losing one of their top pitchers will surely hurt. Can they bounce back? On the year, Pineda has posted a record of 11-5 with an ERA of 4.01 to go along with 140 strikeouts in 146 innings pitched.
What hurts the most is that this came down as the Twins are heading to the postseason and be short one of their best arms. The suspension will carry over into next year as well. This sill put a damper on any Championship hopes but the motto is” next man up”.
