How the New York Yankees Have Benefited From the Time Off
2020 will go down as a historically bad year. We have seen the world we know change over the last month with the ongoing COVID-19 situation. There have been television shows get postponed, concerts canceled, movies get postponed, and sports are all at a standstill right now. We are far from being out of the clear. There have been some rumblings that we could be seeing Major League Baseball making a comeback. How will the New York Yankees look when the season returns?
According to Trevor Plouffe, he has heard rumors that spring training will begin on June 10th. The season would then begin on July 1st. The teams would also be playing in there home ballparks. One of the teams that have high expectations for the 2020 season is the New York Yankees. As we saw, the Yankees ended the season at 103-59. They had several players on the IL and exceed many expectations. Looking ahead towards the 2020 season, many experts in baseball were saying that the Yankees were one big piece away from making a push to the possibility of winning their next World Series.

In December of 2019, they would agree to a deal with former Houston Astros ace, Gerrit Cole. The deal would become a record for a starting pitcher as he signed a nine-year deal worth $324 million dollars. While that was a positive move for the Yankees, the injury bug would make an ugly return rather quickly. All of a sudden, we would see guys like J.A. Happ, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and others get injured or suspended as in the case with Domingo German.
Many of them were set to return by June or July as we see in the case of Aaron Hicks and J.A. Happ. The later the season starts will benefit one hundred percent. They will still have some holes with guys who are going to be out longer. However, with how weak the American League East is looking like, the Yankees having a lot of the guys back will benefit them.
It will be interesting to see how Judge and Stanton are because they seem to be injury-prone. As we head to June 10th, it will be very interesting to see how this whole thing plays out.
