MLB Power Rankings (Points System): Can anyone catch the Arizona Diamondbacks, Minnesota Twins?
Welcome to the InscriberMag’s first ever MLB Power Rankings done by a point system. I came up with this to try to avoid all the guessing that goes into rankings. You could have three teams with identical records but because a team won on the road, some experts will put them ahead of another. With a point system, I’m hoping to avoid all those opinionated rankings. It’s still early in the season and most rankings won’t really begin to take form until a month down the road. However, as a baseball fan, I couldn’t help myself with this.
As the season moves forward I will add more points to the system like road wins, division, interleague wins, and wins against playoffs teams. It will add more spice but since were only a week into the 2017 season, we haven’t had a real chance to view teams in those cases yet.

A win= 4 points
Score 7+ Runs= 2 points
Gave up 7+ Runs= -2
Shutout a team= 3 points
If YOU get shutout= -3 points
Divison Leader= 3 points

The first week of the season has been full of surprises. How many can say they actually picked the Diamondbacks to have the best record in baseball? What about the Phillies who took two from the Nationals this past weekend or the Reds pitching staff that has three shutouts so far? The Twins look to be contenders while the Mariners and Braves are trying their best to keep their heads above water. Have Mike Trout and the Angels finally turned the corner or is this just a mirage? The Rays are an offensive juggernaut, the Cubs are playing a slower pace and the Dodgers are smacking the ball around no matter the pitcher.
One week in and it already has the makings of a magical year.
