For many teams, the 2019 MLB season is essentially over. One of those teams are the Miami Marlins. They are set to have their tenth straight losing season. It’s worth noting that Don Mattingly has been manager for four seasons. It seems that ownership isn’t a fan of him and might be looking to move on from him once the season is done.

While the expectations were never high for the Marlins, it may come down to money that could be what has Don Mattingley exit in Miami. In essence, Ken Rosenthal made the point that he can see the Marlins go for a younger, cheaper manager. This is due to what Mattingly is expected to make. In all honesty, I won’t be surprised if this move were to be done. You can’t blame Mattingley for how the team has played, but at some point, you need to start pointing fingers. As it is taught in baseball, the manager usually takes the blame. You can’t blame Mattingly because it’s not all his fault. The Marlins have been a mess for years and seem to be the bottom of the NL East every year.

As far as Mattingly’s future, I could see him becoming a manager of another team or even a coach. While he didn’t do well in Miami, he isn’t a terrible coach. He did decent while he was with the Dodgers. While I figure the Marlins to get a young, cheap manager; it may not what best suits them. I can guarantee you that Derek Jeter and company want to win. I can’t see them go for someone with little to no experience. I could see a scenario play out to where they bring in someone who has the experience, but is cheap.

This is a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt.
