MLB Rumors: Philadelphia Phillies Will Go After Manny Machado and Bryce Harper

The Philadelphia Phillies are sitting in a place where no one outside of their organization and fan base would have placed them. A month into the 2018 season and the Phillies are in second place in the highly competitive National League East. Yes, the same division that houses the New York Mets and Washington Nationals. Times have changed indeed but it could get a lot better if the Phillies were to land Manny Machado and/or Bryce Harper.

Just this offseason, the Philadelphia Phillies were picked to finish in a fight with the Miami Marlins for bottom-of-the division standings. Too bad the Phillies never received the memo. But what has many fans talking is what the future holds for the Phillies. Despite spending money this offseason on Jake Arrieta and Carlos Santana, the Phillies could clean up again with Manny Machado and Bryce Harper.

According to Fanrag Sports, the Phillies could be an offseason destination for two of MLB’s biggest stars. But why wait until the end of the season?

What happens if the Phillies are fighting not only for a wild card but the division lead by the trade deadline? Will the Phillies be willing to give up young talent for Machado and Harper? There’s a good chance both teams could be willing to begin a rebuild and the Phillies could be in prime position to take advantage.

While Manny Machado and Bryce Harper have been tied to the New York Yankees dating back to this offseason, no deal was done which leaves the door open for a team to come in and steal their thunder. Think back, who was bold enough to call the Arrieta and Phillies pairing?

But why the Phillies, what makes them so special?

For one, the city is buzzing with excitement. Thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles and their Super Bowl win, sports fans are going nuts over anything sports-related. Then you factor in the Philadelphia Flyers and their trip to the playoff, the Philadelphia 76ers, and their growth, so why not the Phillies? This is a young team with money to spend, a hardcore base of fans and young talent to mold.

Adding Manny Machado and Harper to this team would have them challenging the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and Chicago Cubs for supremacy in the National League for years to come. This is what the Phillies had in mind when they shipped off Cole Hamels, Jimmy Rollins and the rest of that core. It was all about starting over, now all the Philadelphia Phillies is missing are the remaining pieces to bring it all together. Manny Machado and Bryce Harper are perfect fits.
