The New York Yankees played the Houston Astros in Game 6 of the 2019 American League Championship Series. Unfortunately, Jose Altuve hit a two-run home run to send the Astros to the World Series. With this loss, the Yankees accomplished something that hasn’t been done since the Yankees of the 1910’s. For the first time in a decade, the Yankees have failed to reach the World Series. There last World Series appearance was in 2009 which they were able to win. In addition, the Yankees streak of four straight losses in the LCS series is the most in baseball.

Since their last World Series, it’s been interesting for the Yankees. Despite finishing less than fourth place and missing the playoffs entirely in 2016, 2014, and 2013; the Yankees have gone no further than the LCS series in the 2010 decade. Despite missing the playoffs three times, that is much better than the Yankees of the 1910’s. From 1910- 1919, the Yankees never made it to the playoffs. They wouldn’t make a World Series until 1921 when they would end up losing. With most teams, making the LCS is an accomplish. Not the New York Yankees. They may have had a Cinderella kind of year, not winning the World Series is a failure.

In case people didn’t know, the Yankees are held to a higher standard. For years, the Yankees were the powerful team in the American League. However, with how Houston and other teams are coming along, the Yankees are not the top of list anymore. The Yankees will have a long time to rethink what happened during this series. A few moves and an actual ace in this staff, next season could be a different year. As a life long New Yorker, it’s been odd to not see the Yankees in the World Series for an entire decade. The New York Mets have had a more recent World Series appearance than the Yankees.
