Movies: Horror Movies That Could Work As Television Series
Now that the horror genre is back in full swing, the reboots aren’t far behind for that genre either. There’s already Welcome to Derry, an It sequel. Chucky has been a series already on air. Now there are rumors of a Camp Crystal Lake prequel series as well. It appears that everyone is bailing on rebooting the movies in favor of television series. With the wave of streaming wars in full swing, there’s plenty more to choose from.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the most iconic pieces of horror cinema of the 80s. With how much Freddy Krueger’s backstory evolved over the course of the franchise there’s plenty to build off of. If they add the psychological thriller aspect with a horror spin, this can be a dark and twisted tale. From how he was murdered to getting his revenge, A Nightmare on Elm Street’s origin story would be fantastic.
Saw
By the time the movies had finished, the story of the Jigsaw killer became so convoluted they were impossible to follow all the loose threads. While it might have kept fans guessing, in the end, it felt like an endless downward spiral. We may never know the whole story, but if the Saw franchise ever dives into John’s past in a long-running or even a limited series, we’d be in. Too much of his history is left behind and won’t fit into a condensed feature film.

Carrie
This classic Stephen King horror is the perfect fit for a series run. Despite multiple attempts at a reboot, this series has found it’s footing in a remake. The premise however is there. The socially outcasted high school student has been a stape of shows like Stranger Things, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, and I Know What You Did Last Summer. While Carrie might not have the ability for a multiple season run, it would work wonderfully as a limited series based off the movies.
1408
While not one of the best in terms of horror movies, 1408 has the opportunity to live again in a television or streaming series. The only twist is, it would have to work as an anthology series much like American Horror Story. The cast and characters can stay the same, but the guests of the hotel would consistently change each season. Working through a series of different fears for each of the guests each season, 1408 could stand as a psychological thriller as well and play to the fears of staying in unfamiliar places.
Horror is making a massive push and it doesn’t have to all be movies. There are plenty of scary movies that could easily translate to television series.
