Movies: Will Carla Saunders Be The Next Big Name In Horror Movies?
When it comes to movies, the horror genre isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Not everyone can sit down and enjoy a good scary movie with the lights off on a quiet Friday night. Whether it’s a paranormal movie, gore-filled slasher, or psychological thrillers, it’s the fear of the unknown that keeps true horror fans coming back for more. Those of us who love a good horror show appreciate thrills. More often than not they have a passion for the genre that is usually unmatched.
For most people, the love for horror movies stops at a few collectibles or a horror-themed viewing room, but not our featured writer/director/producer Carla Saunders. No, she took her love of horror and made a career out of it. Her biggest dream for her work:
As a self-taught female independent writer-director-producer, the motivation behind my films is to increase representation of women of color who love the horror genre.
As a self-taught aspiring filmmaker, you have to have passion for your work. It’s hard to break into the entertainment industry but Carla found her spark and chose to pursue her dream. While working on a Tyler Perry Production she found her love for the creative process and after that found a way to make it her own. In 2008, she founded Promises Entertainment LLC/Carla Saunders Films. Although she fell in love with movie-making in general, her specialty shines through in reality-based horror movies.

Since its inception, Promises Entertainment has broken down barriers, surpassing their own expectations for how quickly the firm transition from planning and stage composition to implementation. Carla’s tenacity has already developed a reputation. She is known for demanding quality along with her no-baloney approach to production, which translates as a dedication to proficiency and excellence.
She took the experience she picked up over the years and would spend her free time researching everything it took to make her dream a reality. Most days she’d spend in a library learning as much as she could about the movie-making experience. From writing a screenplay to budgets, and everything in between. When it comes to her dreams, no amount of work was too much.
Her most recent film, No Reason, described as an urban horror thriller, will premiere on March 30th at Landmark Midtown Theater at 9 PM (trailer below). It stars Mimi Faust, Teresa “TopNotch” Celeste, Beliria Sims, Toya Sessoms, Jeffery Hunter, Karras Jordan, Cortez Woods, Shaun King Jason, Shay McCray, and Jason “J Boy” Carey.
If you’re in Atlanta Georgia this Wednesday and have a love for horror movies, then check out the premiere. Tickets will be sold on Eventbrite through the link (here)
