Movies: Worst Watched In 2023 So Far
When it comes to honesty in movie reviews, more often than not films are given at least the benefit of the doubt on my end. With a love for everything from Disney to independent movies with everything in between there’s plenty to stay busy with. There is also plenty of forgiveness when it comes to bad movies or actors/actresses we give a break to in average projects. However, there are always a few that sneak by that just don’t cut it. Here are some of the least-liked movies of my 2023 viewing so far you can probably skip. All of them are animated which is a shame:
Minions: Rise of Gru:
This one screams out milking it dry. The minions and despicable me have been around for some time now and even had their own “spin-off”. However, all good things must come to an end and quite frankly, this is one of them. It’s time to take a break from the minions. But a movie every couple of years is just too much.
Night At The Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again:
One of the more fantastic parts of the Night At The Museum movies was the actors and their portrayals of the characters they played. The other was how the museum came to life at night and was filled with a sort of magic, pun intended. The sense of wonder and adventure was the backbone of these movies and in animated form, it just came off as more of a Saturday Morning Cartoon special episode.

Lightyear:
I’m not 100% sure what Disney was going for here, but they missed it. It wasn’t so much of a prequel as it was a “made for tv” interpretation of Buzz Lightyear. It’s as if someone in the Toy Story fictional world decided to make a movie about Buzz Lightyear. They would’ve been better off making a movie with an actual prequel that lead to the creation of the toy.
Strange World:
Another miss for Disney. Something they’re doing isn’t working lately for me. Yeah, maybe the days of Disney princes and princesses are long gone but that’s not the issue. These self-exploration movies where the main character goes on an adventure that leads them to something they should’ve known all along their bread and butter. However, the fun and excitement just aren’t there like they used to be. They’ve leaned too much into the story with very little emotion.
It’s hard to truly judge animated movies without sounding a little cynical. They’re made for kids but plenty had fun for all ages. In recent memory, movies such as Encanto, Wreck-It Ralph, and Ron’s Gone Wrong have proven they can be fun and still be family-friendly. This crop of animated movies just didn’t.
