NBA Free Agency: Top 5 Free Agent Point Guards This Offseason
Marcus Smart
The Boston Celtics are stacked at the PG position with Kyrie Irving and Terry Rozier. That will make Smart a hot commodity for any team in search of a high-volume scorer. While the Celtics would love to retain his services, there’s no need with Gordon Hayward returning and the emergence of Jaylen Brown. But how much is Smart worth on the open market?
Elfrid Payton
Many people are down on Payton. However, a further look and you will see that he’s a steady contributor. The issue has been, his teams are not that talented. Will Phoenix bring him back for another season on a cheap deal or will he end up someplace else? Last season, Payton averaged 11.2 points and 6.2 assists which are not bad numbers considering what he’s had to work with.
Rajon Rondo
The New Orleans Pelicans have no choice but to bring Rondo back. While the team is led by Anthony Davis, Rondo proved to be the glue to hold it all together. Scoring will never be his strong suit but the intangibles he brings to a team–is second to none. Last season, Rondo averaged 8.3 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game. If the Pelicans wish to move on, there are plenty of teams who could use a battled-tested leader like Rondo.
