NBA: Please Understand Ryan Nembhard Is A First-Round Talent

NBA Prospect Ryan Nembhard

There are roughly 10 months until the 2022 NBA Draft. We can now start looking for the best prospects of the class. One player who’s going to make noise come the college basketball season, Ryan Nembhard. Definitely not a name many have on their radar as of yet. However, he will be soon.

Nembhard will play his collegiate basketball at Creighton. The former Montverde Academy standout was a 4-Star recruit. He played on a Montverde roster with Jalen Duren and Caleb Houstan ( both top-5 NBA prospects). Needless to say, Nembhard didn’t get all of the attention in high school. And because of his high-profile teammates, that hurt his stock considerably.

A high school career isn’t what should define Nembhard’s NBA future. Many don’t see him as a first-round talent this year. If we go off of his showing at the U-18 FIBA Games, then you get a better picture of Nembhard’s ability. He was the sparkplug for team Canada.

Nembhard averaged 15.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 6.7 assists during the tournament. This included two 10 assist games, one of which was the 3rd place game in which Nembhard also scored 21 points. He showcased leadership abilities and truly was the heart of that team. This is what NBA scouts need to focus on, not high school stats.

Of courseThere is a reason Nembhard was a 4-Star recruit and not a 5-Star outside of not getting all the love from the scouts.
He’s not the most athletic or explosive prospect in the class. Compare him to another guard such as Ty Ty Washington, who’s exciting, flashy, and a more dynamic scorer. You’ll see why Nembhard might not get the hype he deserves. I dare anyone to find a more precise and efficient passer/point guard in the 2022 class. Nembhard has incredible court vision and basketball instincts.

Assuming Creighton is a Tournament team (and they should be), we are going to see and hear a lot more from Ryan Nembhard. He won’t be a top-5 guy, not in this loaded class. I’m willing to go out on a limb and predict he’ll be a lottery selection. That’s high praise for someone who’s not even being projected in the first 2 rounds as of now.
